ACTIVITY 1
Create a poster that celebrates your own favourite singer/band – or favourite writer/text.
Read below to see why I made the content and layout choices I did. You might make decisions for similar reasons – or you might make completely different choices! But do attempt to take some kind of considered approach to your work. For example, if your poster is showing off your love of ‘Othello’, you could place Iago at the bottom of the poster to represent his hellish actions OR even in the middle to show that he is central to everything that happens OR possibly at the top to show how much power he has over all the play’s action!! There are lots of ways of approaching this task!!
In my poster:
- the colour in the letters that make up Dua Lipa’s name reflect the range of bright, positive feelings her music brings into my life.
- The font at the top of the poster is not predictable or formulaic. This reflects how free Dua Lipa’s music makes me feel.
- the myriad of images serve as a suggestion of the amount of different positive moments her music has offered me.
- the facts (e.g. top 0.005% of Spotify listeners) serve as evidence of my engagement with Dua Lipa’s music.
- the overlapping pictures hint at the constant presence of Dua Lipa in my life – one moments flows into the next; the fact that the moments can’t quite be neatly separated implies there are SO many important Dua Lipa moments to choose from – I can’t fit them all in.
- Top left is my own photo, taken at Wembley. The picture of Dua Lipa on the screen is so much bigger than than the real person – perhaps this indicates how her presence in my life goes beyond what is really possible for a actual human being. The dreams, the good feelings, the love – all those things she conjures with her music go beyond the real. Her music allows me to live beyond the boundaries of normal life.
- The other photos are all professionally taken. My own photos were too amateurish and didn’t reflect the perfect experience of listening to Dua Lipa. A perfect moment deserves a perfect picture!
- The heart symbol at bottom centre reflects the love I have for Dua Lipa’s music and also the love that she sings about.
- My Wembley Stadium ticket is a memento of the unforgettable experience and a reminder that I was actually there.
- The Wembley Stadium concert poster is the biggest image and the most central. This makes sense given that those two nights at Wembley were probably the biggest moments in Dua Lipa’s life. And my night at Wembley was certainly one of the most important moments in my own life!
The priority is to have a great time making your own poster!! Have fun!!
