Here at Sound Of Pen, we believe diversification in rock music is immensely important – and since International Women’s Day is coming up this Friday, we thought we’d take the opportunity to celebrate some of our favourite bad-ass female musicians. There’re countless talented women we could choose from, but we’ve narrowed it down to five spread out over the course of the week. So, without further ado…

3. Queen Kwong

When Love Me To Death came out in April last year, it haunted us, it unsettled us, and it had us awestruck. That’s why, nearly a year later, we still haven’t stopped thinking about it, or Carré Callaway, the mastermind behind it. And it’s not just her hypnotic voice or raw musical prowess either – Callaway is as strong a person as she is a musician. Following her diagnosis of cystic fibrosis in 2018, she’s gone on to excel even further, tearing up gigs and festivals across the world and now in her spare time she’s… making guitar parts out of flowers? Proof that one woman really can do it all (and be incredibly cool while doing it).
