2018 was a whirlwind. 2019 is already looking to be the same (in the best possible way) and we at SoP can’t wait. Here’s what Emily is looking forward to…

There’s one genre in particular that we’ve got a soft spot for at Sound of Pen: metal. This year has welcomed some fantastic metal music, and it seems like 2019 is going to be an even greater year for lovers of this exhilarating genre.

For a start, Bring Me The Horizon’s new album Amo is out in January and it’s set to be a scorcher. The band are also taking on their first ever festival headline slot at All Points East in May — and, considering how well the old songs medley they played recently went down, we’re keeping our fingers crossed that the band might continue to take a less reluctant approach to revisiting those amazing throwback tracks.

In terms of confirmed tours that are sure to blow our minds, While She Sleeps are touring with Trash Boat and Stray From The Path in February and boy oh boy are we excited. With such a lineup, this tour is clearly unmissable. New album SO WHAT? Is also shaping up to be a brilliant album. We love the singles WSS have released so far.

One more iconic band could also be releasing something new soon. Slipknot posted a studio clip a few days ago showing the recording process of All Out Life (a track released in October)… and, well, who wouldn’t see a recording studio and immediately jump to the conclusion of NEW ALBUM!! The first full-lengther from these heavy metal juggernauts in five years would be a pretty big deal. And when you take into account that the nine-piece are already set to headline Download in June, it’s safe to say that 2019 is gonna be one hell of a year for metal.
